Statt die HiHat wie im vorherigen Kapitel nur auf den Viertelschlägen zu spielen (‚on the beat‘), wird sie nun ausschließlich auf ‚und‘ gespielt (‚off the beat‘).
Offbeat HiHat wird hauptsächlich in den Geschmacksrichtungen Ska und Reggae verwendet, kommt aber auch oft im Dance/Pop-Bereich in Verbindung mit 4tel Bass Drum zum Einsatz.
