Ein Fill-In (oder auch nur Fill) unterbricht den Grundrhythmus/Groove, meist um Wechsel in andere Songteile vorzubereiten/anzuzeigen; zum Beispiel von Strophe zu Refrain oder umgekehrt. Sehr oft geschieht dies innerhalb 4-, 8- oder 16-taktiger Phrasen. Das lockert zum einem Dein Drumming auf, hilft aber zum anderen auch Deinen Mitmusikern, die Formteile eines Songs einzuhalten (Intro, Verse, Chorus, Interlude, Solo, Ending). Ein einfacher, aber sehr effektiver Fill-In wäre z.B. einen Takt mit 8tel-Noten zu füllen. Bei der Instrumentierung (Verteilung zwischen unterschiedlichen Trommeln) kannst Du Deiner Kreativität freien Lauf lassen. Erlaubt ist, was gut klingt.
Einer der bekannteste Fill-Ins wurde wohl von Phil Collins im Song “In The Air Tonight” gespielt (bei Minute 3:40).
A fill-in (or just fill) interrupts the flow of rhythm/groove, usually to prepare or indicate changes into a different section of the song; for example, from verse to chorus or vice versa. Very often this happens within 4-, 8- or 16-bar phrases. This loosens up your drumming, but also helps your fellow musicians to stick to the form parts of a song (intro, verse, chorus, interlude, solo, ending). A simple but very effective fill-in would be to fill a bar with 8th notes. As for the instrumentation (distribution between different drums) you can give free rein to your creativity – whatever sounds good.
